Number plates and data protection
A number plate identifies a vehicle, and through it a person. It is personal data, and a system built on reading plates should be able to say plainly what it does with them.

What the plate is used for
It identifies a parking session. The plate read at the entrance opens the session, the plate read at the exit closes it, and between those two points it is what connects the car to a permit, a discount, a payment or a violation.
When an enforcement officer scans a plate, they are asking that same question and getting the session's current status back. They are not being handed a history of the person.

What happens to payment details
Simplyture does not store them. When a driver commits to payment, an amount is reserved through the payment provider or the terminal — we hold a token that stands in for the card, not the card.
That token exists only while the transaction is live. Once the final amount has been captured on exit, it is deleted. Where the session comes to nothing, the reservation is released and there is nothing left to delete.
Unpaid sessions
Where a session ends unpaid, Simplyture records that it happened. Simplyture does not pursue the driver, does not look up an owner from a plate on its own account and does not issue invoices for unpaid parking — that is handled by the parties who already do it for your site.
Questions
Our privacy policy covers the site and our wider processing. Simplyture has a data protection officer, and questions about a specific installation are best answered against that installation rather than in general — ask us and we will route it.
